This past Saturday, June 15, was the annual Women’s Challenge Cup. The regatta was hosted at Minisceongo Yacht Club. This year the racing was split into two divisions: Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker. Both divisions were co-ed featuring women skippers.
Division One was taken by Moonshine, from Nyack Boat Club, which was skippered by Jessie Fitzgerald of Gusto fame. There was intense match racing between Moonshine and Madly Mad Hatter, helmed by Cc Dwyer, as both boats battled it out with equal PHRFs.
In Division Two, the win went to Gusto, with Megan Earl – usually a Gusto crew member – at the helm. While second and third went to two MYC boats Dream Chaser and Anne M, respectively.
The race committee was able to start three races on this sunny day, even with some 180 degree wind shifts. There were eight boats out total for the regatta: three in Division One and five in Division Two. For some, this was their inaugural HRYRA event.
After the day on the water the sailors and family enjoyed a barbecue under the MYC pavilion. There were ribs and salads and a dessert table not easily rivaled. There was a Root Beer Float bar featuring Saranac Root Beer which was donated by Saranac through Manhattan Beer Distributors. Most importantly, there was a great day of racing on this beautiful spring day.
Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend at the Hudson Cove regatta this weekend.
